The 2023 North American Manure Expo contained more than a half-dozen new elements including drag hose demonstrations, manure separator and palletizers on showcase and a Safety & Operations Knowledge Event. Conceived by Expo board members and supported by various Expo sponsors, the Safety & Operations Knowledge Event revolved around informational sessions that promoted safety in manure handling, as well as manure transportation. Speakers pulled from their years of experience, including close calls.

According to a study by the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health that looked at vehicles crashes in the Midwest, crashes occur most commonly in the September-December harvest season. In the year-round data, a total of 7,094 collisions involving 14,758 passengers were recorded, resulting in 161 deaths. Rear-end collisions were most common (22.6 percent of collisions), followed closely by same-direction side-swipes (17.8 percent). With fall harvest around the corner, how can operators bake safety into the culture?
