30 mins of daily exercise may ease depression symptoms

Exercising for half an hour may reduce symptoms of depression for at least 75 minutes post-workout and amplify the benefits of therapy, according to two new studies.

Here’s why you don’t need to feel sore after a workout to know it’s worked

“No pain, no gain” is a commonly used expression when it comes to getting in shape. It may also be why many of us think that you need to feel sore after a workout to know that you’ve done enough.

Michael Feraday to speak at the Business + Ethics Forum

Massage Therapy Canada is excited to welcome Michael Feraday, Executive Director of the RMTAO as one of our highlighted speakers at this year’s event. Michael Feraday will be speaking about some of the RMTAO’s advocacy efforts and how those efforts can impact RMTs directly in their practice. Massage therapy is increasing in popularity and is one of the most used paramedical benefits, and this shows a recognition by the public of the benefits of massage therapy. Michael will be speaking about the RMTAO’s efforts to increase that recognition as well as make massage therapy more accessible. For example, the RMTAO is advocating with health leaders to integrate RMTs in provincially funded health teams like Ontario Health Teams, Family Health Teams and Community Health Teams, which are all areas where other health professionals work. Inclusion in these teams will increase awareness of value of RMTs as health professionals and give the public yet another way to access massage therapy care. » Register now

I knew it was critical that she get to the hospital for emergency care because NF can and does go bad very quickly. Then she told me that this mystery pain started two days after her total knee replacement surgery – and that was four years ago. So I wouldn’t be calling 911, but I did need to know more. Over all this time, what has her doctor said and done? Try this drug, then this one, then a different one. Nothing has worked to relieve her pain in any meaningful way and they all otherwise made her feel awful inside. » Learn More

The Therapeutic Pause in Osteopathy and Manual Therapy: The Somatosensory Integration Time

Osteopathy, and Bowen therapy in particular, emphasizes the importance of making therapeutic pauses during treatments. But it is not explained why a pause should be incorporated into the treatment session, just that it is important to do so.

This book is based on research which attempted to understand and identify the physiology that might justify the inclusion of pauses during treatment. It also looked at how much the pause was used within osteopathic treatment in general.
