Mounties eyeing change to recreational cannabis use policy for members

The RCMP is looking at easing a policy that requires front-line officers and many other employees to refrain from recreational cannabis use for four weeks before duty. A change to the five-year-old policy could bolster recruitment of new officers by bringing the Mounties in line with police forces that have much less restrictive policies on pot use.


'Persistent' bears force 160 firefighters to pull out of B.C. Interior camp

The wildfire service says the bears threatened the safety of staff "within and around'' the camp near Gold Bridge, about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet, prompting the decision to quit the camp last week.

Contractor fined $60,000 after Stelco worker critically hurt in fall during repair and maintenance work

B. Phillips Company (1987) Limited was contracted by Stelco Inc., a steel manufacturer, to perform maintenance and repair work on one of its oxygen furnaces. This included replacing a shielding skirt on a vessel used to purify steel.


Ontario universities pull course info from public sites after hate-motivated stabbing attack in Waterloo

The move to pull some information from public pages comes after a triple stabbing at a University of Waterloo gender studies class in June, which police described as a hate-motivated attack.
