Workplace safety officials investigating truck driver death at Port of Montreal

Montreal's port authority says a man has died after an apparent accident at one of its wharves. Port of Montreal spokesperson Renée Larouche says the authority was notified of an accident involving a truck driver at the Viau shipping terminal northeast of downtown at around 2 p.m. on Friday.


Ontario to do away with sick note requirement for short absences

The province will soon introduce legislation that, if passed, will no longer allow employers to require a sick note from a doctor for the provincially protected three days of sick leave workers are entitled to.


Westpower Equipment fined $330,000 after crane operator killed in Calgary

The incident happened in Calgary on March 3, 2022. The worker, an employee of Westpower Equipment Ltd., was operating an overhead crane to install a pump cover when the cover released from the rigging. It struck the worker, causing fatal injuries.


Custom metal manufacturing firm fined $110K after worker killed in forklift accident

On June 1, 2022, a worker and the president of Performance Finishing & Fabrication were working together to place a metal beam while manufacturing a steel trailer frame for a mobile home. The company president was transporting the metal beam on a forklift when disaster struck.
