Contractor fined $60K after Stelco worker critically hurt performing repair and maintenance work

A contractor doing work at Stelco has been fined $60,000, plus a victim fine surcharge, after a Stelco employee was hurt in a fall during maintenance and repair work. B. Phillips Company (1987) Limited was contracted by Stelco Inc., a steel manufacturer, to perform maintenance and repair work on one of its oxygen furnaces.


Contractor killed at Algoma Steel while cleaning out-of-service gas line

A contractor who was retained to perform specialized maintenance work has been killed at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. The worker lost consciousness while cleaning an out-of-service gas line.


Contractor says it has settled lawsuit with sick and dying coal ash workers

Attorneys for a group of workers who believe their jobs cleaning up a massive coal ash spill in Tennessee led to a slew of illnesses, including fatal cancers, have reached a settlement with the contractor who organized the cleanup for the Tennessee Valley Authority.


Siding contractor in Ottawa fined $75K after worker slipped on ice, fell off platform

An exterior siding contractor in Ottawa has been fined $75,000 after a worker was seriously injured after slipping on ice and falling from an elevated platform. Spartan Weatherguard Exteriors was an employer on a residential development project and subcontracted exterior wall work to another company.
