A contractor doing work at Stelco has been fined $60,000, plus a victim fine surcharge, after a Stelco employee was hurt in a fall during maintenance and repair work. B. Phillips Company (1987) Limited was contracted by Stelco Inc., a steel manufacturer, to perform maintenance and repair work on one of its oxygen furnaces.

In a 2023 court decision, Croke v VuPoint Systems Ltd., the judge found an employment contract had been frustrated by an employee’s refusal to comply with the employer’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. The employer, VuPoint Systems Ltd., was a contractor providing services on behalf of Bell Canada and Bell ExpressVu.
