New research grants announced by the Canadian Cancer Society are bringing together the research community and the labour movement to drive risk reduction and cancer prevention efforts that could save and improve the lives of workers in Canada.

The sister of a man who died on the job while trying to fix a dam in Sheet Harbour four years ago feels “vindicated” after a provincial court judge found Nova Scotia Power (NSP) and two other companies guilty of failing to provide required rescue equipment on site.


Two workplace injuries, one fatal, lead to $290K fine for railcar manufacturer

National Steel Car Limited has pleaded guilty to two separate violations of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act that led to two workplace injuries, one fatal. The incidents occurred at the railcar manufacturer’s Hamilton, Ont., facility in June 2022.


Incident that injured two workers results in $95K fine

HVR Construction Ltd. has been fined $95,000 after two workers were seriously injured by falling trusses. The company pleaded guilty to two counts of contravening clause 3-1(a) of Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.


Firefighter dies battling blaze in Jasper
