In the largest fire demonstration test in the company’s history, EllisDon’s Building and Material Sciences team, alongside partners DIALOG and FPInnovations, set their innovative, patent-approved Hybrid Timber Floor System (HTFS) ablaze. Why? To prove it can stand the heat—literally and figuratively.
The large-scale burn test marks a major milestone in a journey that began in 2021, when EllisDon and DIALOG set out to design a low-carbon, long-span alternative to traditional concrete and steel. The result was a breakthrough structural system combining cross-laminated timber with post-tensioned concrete that is engineered to span 40 feet of exposed timber without compromising strength, safety or aesthetics.
