A MESSAGE FROM POTATOES IN CANADA

After a remarkable growing season for Prince Edward Island potato growers, the tone quickly changed in the fall of 2021. Since the detection of potato wart in two P.E.I. fields, producers have faced devastating losses, including hundreds of millions of pounds of potatoes being destroyed due to export restrictions.

In this episode, Tuber Talk host Dylan Sjolie speaks with Ryan Barrett, research and agronomy specialist for the Prince Edward Island Potato Board. Barrett provides an update on the ongoing challenges and a glimpse at what’s next for the province.

Editor’s note: This episode was recorded in early February, prior to the Feb. 9 announcement that the U.S. would resume imports of P.E.I. table stock potatoes to Puerto Rico.
