2018 Canadian potato yields expected to be less

Yield predictions for Canadian potato production is expected to be slightly less than last year for some provinces that have been hit hard by the hot dry summer, according to the latest potato crop report from the United Potato Growers of Canada.

Pythium leak infects tubers through bruises and wounds and tubers continue to rot in transit or in storage. Practices during harvest that help reduce Pythium leak include minimizing bruising and not digging the crop during warm, humid weather.


Barcelona variety promising for Ontario

Barcelona, a yellow-fleshed variety with smooth skin, was the highest yielding variety in a non-irrigated trial in Ontario. The variety also performed well last year, meaning the Barcelona variety excels in Ontario growing conditions.
