Potato holdings for May down year-over-year

The United Potato Growers of Canada says total Canadian potato storage holdings for May 1 were down 1.2 per cent over 2022 numbers for the same period, but higher than the three-year average.

Acreage of cover crops before potatoes has doubled in P.E.I.

A survey from the P.E.I. Potato Board shows that the acreage of cover crops grown before potatoes has doubled in the province, meaning more green in potato fields across P.E.I. in the months outside the traditional growing season.

P.E.I. seed potato growers worry restrictions may shutter markets for good

Terry Curley, co-owner of Monaghan Farms in Summerfield, P.E.I., had built a successful seed potato operation, growing as many as 60 per cent of the varieties used in Canada by the Frito-Lay chip company.
