Moisture needed in Alberta, as El Niño impacts province

Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation released its moisture situation update Jan. 3, and El Niño is certainly having an impact on the province’s farmland. This year’s El Niño has developed into a strong El Niño and currently has a 54 per cent chance of developing into a “historically strong” event.


Alberta potato production booming despite recent drought conditions

Potato farmers in the province enjoyed a strong harvest in 2023, after back-to-back, record-breaking production years, according to the Potato Growers of Alberta. Alberta produced 32,063,000 hundredweight (CWT) potatoes this year, more than Prince Edward Island's 25,813,000 CWT total, per StatsCanada.
