Air Operated Conveyors

A Common Problem in Many Production Lines

Every high-speed production line has faced the problem of how to make sure that every process receives all of the required materials it needs fast enough to keep the line moving. The typical approach is to keep a hopper full of the feed material high above the production line so that gravity will help to quickly deliver it. To keep that tall hopper full, some method has to be devised to keep supplying more feed stock to it.

There's the manual way, and then there's...

Line Vacs

EXAIR's compressed air powered Line Vac is ideal for moving large volumes of material over long distances. A small amount of compressed air is injected through directed nozzles to produce a vacuum on one end and high output flows on the other, with instantaneous response. The compact design fits easily into drums, super sacks, and feed hoppers. It features large throat diameters for maximum throughput capability. There are no moving parts to bind material flow and there's no noisy, expensive blower to maintain. Available materials include aluminum, Type 303 and Type 316 stainless steel in sizes from 3/8 (inch or NPT) all the way up to 5 inches.

EXAIR Line Vac Air Operated Conveyors

BEFORE EXAIR: A company used electric vacuums to remove cast iron chips and coolant from a machining process. These vacuums continually broke down with clogs, coolant saturation in the electric motors, and vacuum hose deterioration; all of which caused down time and loss of production. They had to be replaced at a rate of one every 3 months. The vacuums also needed to be emptied about 3 times per shift; forcing the operator to stop work for 10‐15 minutes to complete the task. Depending on the material and the amount of coolant saturation, the full containers could weigh up to 100 lbs!

AFTER EXAIR: The electric vacuums were replaced with EXAIR Model 6064 2” Stainless Steel Line Vacs. Now, the operators never have to leave their workstations because the conveyance hoses are routed directly to the point of disposal, and the lifting of the heavy containers for dumping has been eliminated. The Line Vacs have worked flawlessly for over 1 year; in which time they would have had to purchase 4 electric vacuums on each machine and lose countless hours of productivity.

Sanitary Flange Line Vacs

EXAIR Sanitary Flange Line Vac

EXAIR's compressed air operated Sanitary Flange Line Vac connects to standard clamp style flange fittings to create a powerful in-line conveyor. Flanged Line Vac conveyors are made from durable, easy to clean type 316 stainless steel They are ideal for moving large volumes of material in hygenic applications. The material flow rate is easily controlled with a pressure regulator. No moving parts or electricity assures maintenance free operation. Sizes include 1-1/2" , 2" , 2-1/2" and 3" flanges.

BEFORE EXAIR: A pharmaceutical plant was using a blower operated conveyor to move pill capsules into their fill process. The blower required constant maintenance which resulted in production loss.

AFTER EXAIR: The plant coordinated with a local service provider to install a system of 1-1/2" Stainless Steel piping, fitted with a Model 161150-316 1-1/2" Sanitary Flange Line Vac. The ease of installation, the ease of cleanup, and the elimination of downtime for blower maintenance made the Line Vac system a great success.

Heavy Duty Line Vacs

The Heavy Duty Line Vac is EXAIR's most powerful compressed air powered conveyor. The appearance is similar to the standard Line Vac, but it is able to convey materials over longer vertical and horizontal distances. The Heavy Duty Line Vac's beefier, hardened alloy construction allows it to convey abrasive or heavy materials like tumbling media or shotblasting pellets without premature wear. Available from 3/4" through 3". Threaded models are also available.

EXAIR Heavy Duty Line Vac

BEFORE EXAIR: This customer uses a vibratory finishing machine to tumble parts prior to coating. They were looking for a better way to reclaim the tumbling media back into the machine. They were filling 5 gallon buckets and emptying by hand, but this was very labor intensive.

AFTER EXAIR: Using a Model 152200 2" (51mm) Heavy Duty Line Vac Kit, they were able to transfer the media back to the machine in a fraction of the time. The operators are no longer bending over and straining themselves to dump a full 5 gallon container into the machine's hopper.

Threaded Line Vacs

EXAIR Threaded Line Vacs

EXAIR's Threaded Line Vac air operated conveyors convert ordinary pipe into a powerful conveying system for parts, scrap, trim and other bulk materials. The Threaded Line Vac attaches easily to plumbing pipe couplers, making it easy to build a complete system using ordinary pipe and fittings. Models from 3/8 to 3 NPT are available in aluminum, type 303 stainless steel, and type 316 stainless steel. Performance is the same as our standard Line Vac. No moving parts or electricity assures maintenance free operation.

BEFORE EXAIR: Using parts from a local hardware store, a small company assembled a blower powered hopper loader to convey caps from a supersack to a bottling station. They quickly ran into problems with inconsistent delivery speed that would lead to undersupply/oversupply conditions in the hopper.

AFTER EXAIR: They were able to quickly thread an EXAIR Model 141250 2-1/2 NPT Stainless Steel Threaded Line Vac into their existing system and just as quickly realized an increased delivery rate! Since the compressed air powered Line Vac can instantly turn on and off, caps could be delivered at a more constant rate.
