Large size bearings with integrated seals reduces downtime

SKF now offers sealed bearings for a range of its large spherical roller bearings. SKF’s custom made seal aims to at least double the bearing service life by reducing the risk of contamination in the application significantly.

The same seal design used in smaller SRB sizes has achieved a service life of at least double that of an open, non-sealed bearing. The difference can be even more impactful in highly contaminated environments where longer service lives of around three to five times that of a non-sealed bearing can be achieved with SKF’s 'Three-Barrier' bearing protection solution. This solution comprises premium SKF sealed SRBs housed within sealed housings containing a barrier grease. Replacing large size bearings is often very expensive, not just in the cost of the bearing but in lost production and in tying up maintenance resources. An increase in bearing service life can therefore generate positive effects on a company’s bottom line.
