Have you considered who will fill the open positions across the pulp and paper industry as scores of workers retire over the next few years?
The skills gap is one of the biggest challenges facing the industry today. In Pulp & Paper Canada’s 2019 HR survey, 61% of senior-level mill staff said that not having enough applicants is of great concern when recruiting for roles. And 43% said general perceptions about the pulp and paper industry contribute to difficulties in finding new workers.
But we all know there are indeed many young people who have already joined this industry and who are making a difference. Chances are, you know a standout millennial or Gen Xer at your company whose strong work ethic and dedication to solving problems make your job easier. Perhaps you’re even grooming them for a future leadership role.
I want to share those success stories – with your fellow colleagues across the country, and with the students who might eventually consider a career in pulp and paper. So I’m excited to say that Pulp & Paper Canada has launched its first Top 10 Under 40 program to recognize these next-generation leaders.
Workers under the age of 40 as of December 31, 2020 employed in pulp and paper mills or associated industries, such as equipment and technology suppliers, are eligible to be nominated. Nominees must work in an operation based in Canada.
The deadline to nominate a colleague to our Top 10 Under 40 contest is April 15, 2020. Winners will be published in the Summer 2020 issue of Pulp & Paper Canada.
If you have any questions regarding the contest, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Access the nomination form here.
