A large Bleached-Chemi-Thermo-Mechanical Pulp (BCTMP) mill was generating high-strength wastewater that needed to be responsibly treated. The mill decided to explore bio-methane for power generation and installed an ADI-BVF® reactor from Evoqua’s ADI Systems. This innovative technology allows the mill to comply with strict environmental regulations while reducing costs. By anaerobically digesting pulp mill effluent, chemical usage, sludge disposal, and electricity costs have been significantly reduced. Biogas generated during the anaerobic digestion process is used as a source of green energy at the mill.
