The Kingfish Zeeland fish farm has been operational on the Zeeland Colijnsplaat in the Netherlands for a few years now. They have a special fish species called the ‘Yellowtail Kingfish’ and needed a large and reliable system to bring the daily required amount of water to the farm.
A Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) was designed with Grundfos to ensure water was pumped through a water treatment plant ensuring the proper environment for fish to thrive. Fresh seawater was pumped in while “old” seawater was drained amounting to about 30% of the total amount of approximately 5,000 m³ (1,320,860 gallons) of seawater.
