Taste of BC identifies location of new RAS facility

British Columbia- (B.C.-) based aquaculture company Taste of BC (TBC) Aquafarms has chosen a 20 acre lot in Deep Bay, B.C. as the spot for a new recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility it plans to build. TBC intends to raise steel-head salmon in the planned facility. TBC, which a wholly owned subsidiary of Miami-based Blue Star Food Corp., has signed a 20-year lease on the land with an additional option to expand its holdings for another 10 acres, a press release from the company said.


Finnforel announces plans for first rainbow trout selective breeding centre

Finland-based technology company Finnforel, which has become a leading ecological fish farm, has announced the next part of its growth phase involves new production facilities, as well as its first selective breeding centre for rainbow trout. The EUR 12 million facility will have the capacity to produce eggs for six Finnforel gigafactor plants, worldwide.

Skretting and Atlantic Sapphire partner on local feed supply venture

Skretting has announced its plans to construct a specialized feed plant for land-based salmon in Florida to serve Atlantic Sapphire’s U.S. operations, with feeds specialized for Bluehouse farming. For Atlantic Sapphire, having a local feed plant will minimize the carbon footprint of transporting the feed to the facility, additionally cutting the company’s logistics costs and as a result its cost of production, by approximately USD $0.3/kg HOG. » Read more

COVID, cyber attack clip AKVA earnings

Aquaculture technology provider, AKVA group said its 2021 third quarter revenues were pulled down by as much as 8 per cent compared to the same period last year, and net profits dived by 22 per cent dues to the negative impact of a major cyber attack and the COVID-19 pandemic. » Read more

Refinancing to support Nordic Halibut’s growth plans

Nordic Halibut (NOHAL), a Norwegian producer of sushi-grade halibut, reported that it has entered into a Term Sheet for a NOK 100 million (US$11.6 million) overdraft facility agreement with a Norwegian bank. The money will allow Nordic Halibut to pay its previous long term debt and overdraft facility, and enable the company pursue its production goals as well as expansion plans which include the construction of a new land-based facility. » Read more
