Toronto firm plans RAS facility in Georgian Bay site

Toronto-based company Georgian Bay Innovation Group (GBIG) and its subsidiary, Georgian Bay Salmon, have unveiled plans to build a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility for growing Atlantic salmon in Colpoy’s Bay in Wiarton, Ontario. The proposed project is reported to involve the construction of a 500,000 s/f land-based fish farm by the bay, with the capacity to produce 15,000 tons of Atlantic salmon per year.


AquaGen launches search for CEO

Aquaculture genetics company AquaGen said it has started looking for a new chief executive officer shortly after the firms current CEO expressed her desire to resign. Nina Santi, who joined AquaGen back in 2007, said she has decided to step down to allow someone else to take the helm.


Norway’s SalmoTerra hires Graintec to build RAS facility

Aquaculture company SalmoTerra has signed a deal with Graintec of Denmark to provide recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology for what could be one of the largest land-based grow-out facilities for Atlantic salmon in Norway, which the company says will reach a total production capacity of 8,000 tons.

ASC says new seafood tracing tool is more than 95 per cent accurate

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council said new technology for tracing the origins of seafood, which the independent aquaculture labeling and protocol organization is launching, has an accuracy rate of better than 95 per cent. ASC said the tool will help further reduce seafood fraud and mislabeling, occurrences all too common in both wild-caught and farmed seafood. » Read more

NaturalShrimp, Inc. reported that it has made good with its first delivery to live shrimp to Gulf Seafood Inc. (GSI). The delivery is part of a commitment to provide 25,000 pounds of shrimp to the Florida-based company with distributes shrimp throughout North America. » Read more

Andfjord Salmon ready to fill first Andøya pool

Andfjord Salmon AS is making preparations to fill the first pool of its land-based salmon farm at Kvalnes on Andøya, with water. The pool, which is 20 metres deep, will hold more than 1,000 tons of salmon. The first pool was technically ready to be filled with water a few months ago, according to the company. However, Andfjord Salmon is testing pool functions with seawater, various equipment and components such as power adapters, sensors and the filtration system for discharge water. » Read more
