Dallas, Texas-based shrimp producer NaturalShrimp reported that it has secured US $15 million in credit offering and now intends to move forward with plans to expand its shrimp production facilities. The company reported it sold a 12 per cent secured promissory note in a private placement offering to Streeterville Capital for US $16.32 million, before fees and expenses of US $1.32 million.

Start-up company, Land Ocean Farm, has released plans for the UK’s largest shrimp farm, which will grow whiteleg shrimp in a land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), and will aim to one day produce 1,000 metric tons (MT) of shrimp per year. At this time, the company is actively fundraising to finance the first stage of the project, and hopes to begin construction in early 2022.

A subsidiary of Tokyo-based marine product company Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd., also known as Nissui, reported this week its very first harvest of sashimi-grade, chub mackerel from a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Sakaiminato City, Japan. The facility. run by Yumigahama Fisheries Co., was stocked with hatchery seedlings in June 2020. The Nussui subsidiary said the first harvest was made on Nov. 25, 2021, with the mackerel weighing between 250 and 350 grams.

Singapore-based ornamental fish service company Qian Hu Corp. Ltd., has invested $1 million SGD in AquaEasy Pte Ltd., a provider or artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to shrimp farmers. While widely known for providing more than 1,000 species and varieties of ornamental fish and distributing aquarium accessories, Qian Hu has also developed a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for intensive fish farming. The company’s chief executive office, Yap Kok Cheng, said that partnering with AquaEasy will boost Qian Hu’s capabilities.

Florida-based company Blue Star Foods continues to grow its land-based aquaculture presence with its recent acquisition of a recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) technology firm. Blue Star’s purchase last week of Gault Seafood, LLC is only its second acquisition of a RAS company this year. The 20-year-old Beaufort, South Carolina-based firm Gault Seafood developed a unique RAS technology meant for harvesting Atlantic Blue Crab during the specie’s off-season.
