Ongoing aquatic studies and environmental analysis will determine the prospects of Georgian Bay Salmon’s (GBS) planned recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Wiarton, Ontario’s Colpoy’s Bay. The company, which is a subsidiary of Georgian Bay Innovation Group, announced last month that it plans to build a 500,000 s/f land-based fish farm by the bay just 250 km north of Toronto, which will have the capacity to produce 15,000 tons of Atlantic salmon per year.

The technical team at NaturalShrimp Inc., reported that the company’s patented electrocoagulation (EC) water treatment technology is able to reduce nitrites in receirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) without the use of biofilters. Such a technology is said to cut instances of nitrite buildup in biofilters, which can be bad for fish health.

Dallas, Texas-based shrimp producer NaturalShrimp reported that it has secured US $15 million in credit offering and now intends to move forward with plans to expand its shrimp production facilities. The company reported it sold a 12 per cent secured promissory note in a private placement offering to Streeterville Capital for US $16.32 million, before fees and expenses of US $1.32 million.

Land-based fish farm company Arctic Seafarm Langset AS, was granted a licence by the Nordland County Municipality in Norway to produce 15,000 tons of salmon per year at the company’s facility on the coast of Helgeland in the northern part of the country.
