Food processing company, Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM), has opened a research laboratory in the U.S. that will focus on the development of commercial-equivalent feeds for the aquaculture industry. The company said its Aquaculture Innovation Lab at the Animal Nutrition Technology Center (ANTC) in Decatur, Ill., will extend its research and development (R&D) capabilities to North America, and will build on existing ADM aquaculture research facilities located in Brazil, Mexico, and Vietnam.

Minnesota-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) shrimp producer, The trū Shrimp Companies Inc., has filed a proposal for initial public offering (IPO) with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. trū Shrimp is in the process of raising money to build it’s first large-scale production facility in South Dakota.

Protix, a Dutch producer of insect-based aquafeed, has named a new chief commercial officer (CCO). Anneke van de Geijn, who held several high-level positions at at Netherlands-based dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina including global sales director and most recently, commercial and managing director, will lead the commercial strategy for Protix.

Blue Aqua has announced it will develop the first high-tech fish farm in Singapore, which will produce trout. This initiative comes as part of Blue Aqua’s intention to grow its aquaculture operations in Singapore, and will invest $45 million Singaporean dollars (US$29 million). The facility has a planned annual production capacity of 1,200 tons of rainbow trout, which will aim to meet local demand for sustainable, high-quality fish.

The University of Waterloo in southern Ontario, Canada is opening a new research facility to research aquatic stressors that could impact the future of aquaculture. The new Waterloo Aquatic Threats in Environmental Research (WATER) facility aims to simulate and research threats to prepare the aquaculture industry to prevent current and future problems.
