Lafarge Canada receives $5 million for sustainable cement technology

The British Columbia government provided Lafarge Canada with a $5 million investment to further develop its carbon utilization technology in cement production. The investment is being made through the CleanBC Industry Fund, which uses a portion of carbon tax paid by heavy industry and invests it back into clean technology.

Cemex acquires Newfoundland’s Atlantic Minerals

Cemex USA have closed on a previously-unannounced acquisition of Atlantic Minerals, a Newfoundland-based aggregate and quarry company. As part of the deal, Cemex will gain ownership of Atlantic Minerals’ assets, including a construction and chemical aggregates quarry and corresponding port operations.

Manitoba Heavy Construction Association advocates for prompt payment legislation

The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) voiced support for the passing of Bill 38, The Builders’ Liens Amendment Act, during a meeting with a legislative committee on May 8. The proposed legislation will ensure that all parties to construction contracts receive payment in a timely fashion.

Tender issued for Trans-Canada Highway upgrades in British Columbia’s Little Shuswap Lake

Tendering has been initiated on the contract for improvements to a 4.3 kilometre stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Ford Road and Tappen Valley Road. The $243 million project includes widening the highway from two to four lanes, the construction of frontage roads, and the replacement of the Tappen overpass.
