More pit restrictions coming for Caledon area

CALEDON, Ont. — The Town of Caledon is seeking to impose more restrictions on aggregate companies and pits in the area.  Two motions put before council this month looked to have continued restrictions or sought to impose new ones within the town’s borders.


Environmental impact to be considered on federal works projects says new law

OTTAWA, Ont. — A Senate bill encouraging sustainability as a consideration in all federal construction and works projects has passed unanimously. The bill amending the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act passed on Sept. 27 and will become law once it receives a royal assent date.


Metrolinx sign contract with soil management company

TORONTO, Ont. ‑ Metrolinx has awarded a contract to SoilFLO, a provider of soil management software, in an effort to increase the company’s ecological and sustainability practices in their construction activities. SoilFLO is a software platform designed to simplify soil management for construction and environmental teams, and to encourage sustainable practices and environmental compliance in their soil management tasks.


Pilot program will offer Ontario students free OACETT memberships

TORONTO, Ont. — Students in engineering and applied science programs at three Ontario colleges will be the beneficiaries of a new pilot program to gauge the value of offering free association memberships to students starting this year. The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is partnering with Cambrian College, Conestoga College and Durham College to offer the free memberships for the one, two or three years of their chosen program, and the three years immediately following their graduation.
