WSIB rates to hold steady in 2024

In a year when costs have been skyrocketing in the construction industry, Ontario employers can look forward to stable Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) premiums for the coming year. In a statement released Oct. 31, the Government of Ontario announced it wouldn’t be raising the employer-paid premiums for 2024.


New milestone reached on B.C. subway project

Last weekend saw another milestone achieved for British Columbia’s Broadway Subway Project. A second tunnel-boring machine broke through the east wall at the site of the future Oak-VGH Station, Oct. 28. The boring machine, named Elsie, broke through following the first boring machine’s breakthrough Oct. 12.


Annual extension granted to Dufferin Aggregates

Dufferin Aggregates is taking advantage of an unseasonably warm October in Ontario. The company received approval from the Township of Puslinch to extend its year, maintaining summer hours and haulage amounts into December. The Aberfoyle Pit is normally allowed to operate from May 1 to Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Dufferin received approval at an Oct. 18 meeting to extend those hours for one month, to Dec. 15, and add an extra hour in the morning, for a start time of 7 a.m.


Road work on major Montreal artery taking longer than expected

Three months after City of Montreal engineers closed down part of Notre-Dame Street East for emergency repairs, the major artery remains at one lane. The lane was closed in July when city workers discovered the cover to the underground sewer entrance was cracked, leaving the area unsafe for drivers. The large manhole covers nearly 4.5 square metres, making the hole wide enough to swallow a small car.

Chatham-Kent council asking MTO to speed up work on Hwy 401

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is calling out the province for not providing clear timelines for the completion of projects on Highway 401 between Tilbury and London. At a meeting Oct. 16 council voted unanimously to ask the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for clarification on when the projects would be completed, after recent MTO updates on the status of provincial projects failed to provide a clear time frame for the area. » Read More...
