McSweeney replaces Cheesman at OSSGA

Norm Cheesman, a fixture at the Ontario Stone Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA) as its Executive Director for the last eight years, announced his departure from the organization effective immediately. Michael McSweeney was announced as Cheesman’s replacement, as appointed by the OSSGA board of directors.


Climate resistant bridges complete on B.C.’s Coquihalla Highway

Six permanent, climate-resilient bridges have been completed on Coquihalla Highway 5 after the highway was washed out in unprecedented flooding in November 2021. The Government of British Columbia announced the completed highway project between Merritt and Hope, B.C., saying the new bridges are now more resilient and reliable than those lost two years ago.


VOLVO CE and CRH partner on further low-carbon initiatives

Global construction materials and aggregates company CRH has partnered with Volvo CE to take the next steps in net zero. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding Nov. 13,  to explore decarbonization opportunities in transport, operations and materials.


Blasting in Yellowknife quarry causes shockwave

Blasting at a quarry site near Yellowknife had the city feeling tremors on Monday afternoon. Originally reported by Cabin Radio, the site about 3.5 kilometres west of the Northwest Territories’ capital city confirmed a blast had taken place when the shockwave was felt. Blasting is common at quarries surrounding the city, including the site operated by CJ Contracting, but the 1 p.m. blast was reported to be stronger than most.
