Research paper, Tough and Ductile Architected Nacre-Like Cementitious Composites, published in Advanced Functional Materials by Reza Moini, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Princeton University, found that alternating layers of tabulated cement paste and thin polymer can significantly improve a material’s crack resistance and its ability to deform without breaking.
