In yet another willful case of vandalism, a soccer field in Cornwall, Ont. has been significantly damaged by what is believed to be a pickup truck and an all-terrain vehicle. The cost to repair the damage caused to the field at the Seaway Valley Soccer Club is expected to be about $2,000.

The people have spoken in Sarnia, Ont. They oppose the city's proposed tree bylaw that would have required residents wishing to remove a tree from their property to pay a fee to apply for a permit. But the permit could be rejected in some cases. Council has consequently axed the bylaw, for now.

Failure to remove a dead elm tree on a North End, Man. street is creating serious problems for adjacent neighbours. Large branches of the tree, which succumbed to Dutch elm disease about two years ago, recently fell from the weight of a snowfall onto driveways and hydro lines. Residents fear someone will be seriously injured if the city fails to remove the tree.

Don't expect the Toronto Blue Jays to ever play on natural turf inside the Rogers Centre, the club's president says. In spite of a study commissioned to explore the feasibility of growing natural turf inside the retractable roofed stadium, the costs of retrofitting the building to accommodate proper drainage and natural turf is too costly and unrealistic, says Jays president Mark Shapiro.
