Dried up funding costs cemetery groundsman his job

A decrease in church attendance has cost a Sydney, N.S. man his job as groundskeeper for the church's cemetery. The local Roman Catholic church parish can no longer afford his salary, leaving maintenance of the older cemetery in limbo.


WWI tree project concerns some in Saanich, B.C.

Plans to plant large memorial trees in Saanich, B.C. to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War have been met with concern among some residents. They say the trees will require large open spaces to grow and that their roots and branches could damage pavement, roofs and drains.


Emerald ash borer makes official arrival in Manitoba

The invasive emerald ash borer has been found in Winnipeg, and officials believe as many as 350,000 trees could be affected. Although the arrival of the insect has been expected, its confirmed presence in the St. Boniface area marks the first time it has been found in Manitoba.


Thieves steal snow removal equipment from N.S. landscaper

Snow removal equipment valued at $28,000 was stolen from a Fall River, N.S. landscaping company sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning. Thieves also caused damage to the compound of The Lawn Guy's business during the theft.
