Activists hope to stop further bulldozing of trees in protected zone

A London, Ont. woman is wondering how a developer was granted permission to bulldoze about 500 pine trees in one of the city's designated tree protection zones. She and several activists successfully blocked the developer's efforts to knock the trees down on Monday after blockading the area.


School shuts down playground until soil lead levels deemed safe

Students attending Winnipeg's Weston elementary school have been barred from using the school's playground after it was revealed this week that soil in the area was contaminated by high levels of lead. The test that revealed the presence of lead was conducted 10 years ago, but the provincial government of the day chose not to disclose the information. Manitoba's sustainable development department was to determine if the playground has since become safe to use.


Lawn care pro taps into robotic mowing technology

A Durham, Ont. lawn care professional has tapped into modern technology, offering his customers robotic lawn mowing services. TurfBot Mowing Services so far has six customers whose lawns are cut by the robotic mowers, and hopes are to franchise the concept within the next couple of years.


Half of young golfers plan to smoke dope on course: survey

About one in seven golfers in British Columbia plan to smoke marijuana on the golf course once it becomes legal next month, and one in two golfers under the age of 35 plans to do so, according to a survey of about 5,400 golfers.
