Halifax city council is studying a report proposing a 24,000-seat stadium that could be the home for a new Canadian Football League franchise. A group called Maritime Football Limited Partnership has proposed a 38-hectare parcel of land in an east end park to serve as the site for the new stadium. Landing the league's 10th team is conditional upon having an appropriate stadium.

A purchase order for new lawn mowers and lawn care services lies at the heart of an investigation into possible fraudulent activity within the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. The incident happened in 2013. Curiously, the district already had lawn mowers and the company hired wasn't even in the lawn care business.

An emergency meeting held yesterday to determine the fate of the Riverview Golf Club has given the Redcliff, Alta. golf course a second chance. During an impassioned meeting attended by club members, local politicians and the general public, a new committee was formed to explore ways to keep the golf course open for play in spite of its short-term debt load of more than $400,000.

The Town of Oakville, Ont.'s desire for the Glen Abbey Golf Club to be preserved as an important heritage site has taken a big hit. In a Superior Court of Justice document dated late last week, course owner ClubLink has been granted the right to take its demolition application to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT). ClubLink wants to demolish the frequent site of the Canadian Open to build 3,222 new residential units.

Since the legalization of marijuana took effect across Canada last week, the phone has been ringing off the hook at a Calgary Weed Man franchise. The lawn care business has fielded several telephone inquiries as well as questions from walk-in traffic as to whether The Weed Man sells cannabis or "weed."
