A car doing "many, many doughnuts" in a Vancouver park last weekend, causing extensive damage to the turf, is under investigation by city police. No estimate on the amount of damage has been determined, but ruts into the ground were four to six inches deep.

Residents neighbouring the Stonebridge Golf Club outside Ottawa fear a back-door deal is being made to initiate further development at the golf course, causing their property values to drop, their amount of green space to diminish and the area's infrastructure to become overburdened. In spite of a petition circulated to save an iconic tree from being removed in downtown Victoria, B.C., work crews removed the 30-year-old tree yesterday to make way for bike lanes and a crosswalk. Onlookers who wanted the tree spared said they were "heartbroken" and felt the "heart and soul" of the downtown had been removed.

The extreme cold snap hitting most parts of Canada could be bad news for the emerald ash borer, scientists are saying. Research is being done to see if temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius or lower might be enough to kill the invasive pest or at least slow it down.
