Manitoba remains on watch for emerald ash borer activity

The emerald ash borer remains a threat in Manitoba in spite of an extremely cold winter in the province. Manitobans were hoping the extreme cold would have killed off the invasive insect, but many have survived and are expected to continue to destroy ash trees.

Kamloops using growth regulators on sports turf

The City of Kamloops is looking to reduce mowing operations on its sports fields this summer by applying plant growth regulators. The strategy is expected to make the turf more durable for user groups and requires less downtime and maintenance, less irrigation during hot summer months and about 40 per cent less mowing.


P.E.I. on alert for invasive browntail moth caterpillar

Prince Edward Island is on the alert for an invasive caterpillar that poses a threat to not only oak trees but to humans as well. The browntail moth caterpillar feeds on oak trees and its hairs give off a toxin when touched.
