Job vacancies in Canada remain stubbornly high, sitting at nearly one million open positions in September, according to Statistics Canada.
The pandemic has exacerbated the situation, with labour market shortages doubling during 2021 and 2022, according to academic research. There is a scarcity of available solutions and a plentiful supply of vacant jobs, which is a difficult recipe for hiring.
