Checking up on Ontario’s soybeans

In Ontario, soybean seedling diseases and root rots are the second most important yield limiting diseases, and this year is no different. Cool soil temperatures along with early rains in parts of Essex and Niagara resulted in a large number of soybean fields needing to be replanted and recent significant rainfall has had a negative impact on soybeans in many areas.


Competition Bureau OKs merger between Dow and DuPont

Canada’s Competition Bureau has reached an agreement with DuPont and Dow regarding the proposed merger of the two companies. The terms require DuPont to sell a significant portion of its global herbicides business and research and development branch, while Dow must sell its global business of select specialized plastics products.


Canola in the spotlight

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum’s “Canola! Seeds of Innovation” exhibition opened in Ottawa on July 1. The exhibit is immersive and interactive, telling the story of how Canadian plant researchers created a healthy vegetable oil from a little-known plant that grew well on the Prairies.
