Oat is anything but simple on a genomic level. Its huge, complicated genome makes developing genomic tools for improved oat breeding really challenging. Fortunately, Nick Tinker and his research group at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Ottawa are up to the challenge. Their research ranges from creating methods to rapidly screen thousands of oat breeding lines to international collaborations.
