Advances in extra-early soybeans

Growers in Quebec, northern Ontario, the Maritimes and the Prairies are interested in growing soybean, but the shorter growing season requires varieties with very early maturity. Louise O’Donoughue of CÉROM in Quebec has focused on developing extra early soybean varieties for the past decade, and in examining the genes responsible for early maturity has developed around 10 early maturing varieties with commercial potential. » Learn more
 

Does feed barley really require more N than malt?

Traditional wisdom says to apply more nitrogen (N) to feed barley than malt, but this is not borne out by recent studies. A three-year study that wrapped up last year was conducted at several sites across Saskatchewan, examining response to different rates of N fertilizer from high-yielding CDC Austenson feed barley and three malt barley varieties, resulting in 18 site years of data. » Learn more
