Sangeeta Dhaubhadel, a plant molecular biologist/biochemist at AAFC’s London Research and Development Centre, recently discovered a gene that controls a slow-darkening trait in pinto beans. There are two types of pinto beans: slow-darkening pinto beans, which are more popular with consumers, and regular-darkening pinto beans, which have better agronomic traits but have marketability issues.

Over the last decade, spring wheat yield potential has increased, and research has focused on how to maximize this yield and maintain adequate protein content levels.
