As a crop with a short growing season that can succeed in poor soil with little fertilizer and water, millet is ideal for a warming world. In Canada, millet is mainly grown as animal feed and birdseed, with smaller production for use in foodstuffs. But several AAFC research projects are finding innovative ways to use millet to increase crop yields, make soil healthier and even generate biofuel.
