Decades of tillage, wind and water erosion has resulted in severely eroded knolls. Knoll erosion results in low organic matter and poor fertility, water infiltration and holding capacity – and ultimately poor crop productivity. Research has found moving topsoil from low spots back onto the eroded knolls was a successful way to reclaim them, but that practice can be expensive.
