Resistant varieties are a critical tool for managing phytophthora root rot in soybean. However, a recent Canadian survey revealed 84 per cent of growers were using soybean varieties with genes that were no longer effective against the PRR variants in their fields. Fortunately, the new diagnostic method used in this survey is available to growers and industry to find out which resistance genes still work.
