Tar spot is an emerging fungal disease in Ontario cornfields, first detected in 2020. It presents as black, raised lesions that feel rough to the touch, like sandpaper. These lesions, called stroma, contain spores that can spread through wind and rain, leading to multiple infection cycles within a single growing season.
