Top Crop Manager’s annual cover photo contest kicked off earlier in May, inviting anyone from across Canada to submit their photos depicting Canadian agriculture. With many agriculture groups across the country focusing on strengthening the Canadian agriculture industry, the cover photo contest provides participants with the opportunity to share their own experience on the farm and in the field.

Cleanfarms recently released their annual report that documents five major highlights from 2024, including positive results from new programs, advocacy on an international stage, provincial shifts away from landfill disposal, exploring innovative ways to use recycled plastics and providing an overall better farmer experience.

The Revive Fund, a program developed by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) to support new projects and initiatives of rural communities, has received an additional $96,000 in funding from OFA. The program's fund now sits at approximately $267,900 for 2025 and includes contributions from county and regional federations, among other partners.

Ted Vanhie has been appointed the new technical foreperson at the Ontario Crops Research Centre at Huron, a research station operated by the University of Guelph's Ridgetown campus. Backed by his experience in agricultural operations and research management background, he will oversee the station's day-to-day operations.

Producers know cover crops can provide an array of benefits, such as improved soil health and decreased disease, insect and weed problems. But in the short term, the costs of buying the seed and planting the cover crop can be a barrier to adoption of this practice. This southern Ontario project is assessing options to make cover cropping more economically attractive in the short term.
