Since the first resistant hybrids were grown in clubroot-infested canola fields in the Edmonton area 11 years ago, resistance genes have proven to be an effective management tool.
The hybrids with the original source of clubroot resistance provided excellent control, but in recent years, numerous virulent pathotypes of the disease have emerged that can overcome the initial resistance genes. The seed industry has responded with the development of hybrids with sources of resistance which specially target these strains.
