Speaker spotlight: Don Flaten

Dr. Don Flaten recently retired from the University of Manitoba, where he was a professor in soil fertility, crop nutrition and nutrient management. Prior to teaching and conducting research on a full-time basis in the department of soil science, Don was director of the School of Agriculture at the U of M, as well as Provincial Soils Specialist for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, and a District Agriculturist for Alberta Agriculture.

In his keynote address for the Top Crop Summit, Don will share some highlights of the principles and practices of soil fertility that he has learned and re-learned over the 45 years since he took his first soil fertility course at university. Many of the practices from those 45-year-old lessons have changed and some have simply become obsolete. However, many of the principles are still as important as ever and help to explain our current soil fertility and nutrient management recommendations and practices.

Don’t miss this session and many others at the 2021 Top Crop Summit, to be held Feb. 23 and 24. The Top Crop Summit is approved for CCA and CCSC CEUs in the categories of Soil and Water Management, Crop Management, Nutrient Management and Integrated Pest Management.
