July moisture remains critical for harvest success in Alberta

The droughts of 2021 and 2023 - and the 2023 crop year followed by a warm winter - left many farmers hoping for more moisture this growing season. According to Alberta's Agricultural Moisture Situation Update on July 5, moisture levels are looking more promising in Alberta. The update predicts that July remains a critical month for setting farmers up for a successful harvest.


PrairiesCan invests millions to expand Olds College Smart Farm

The Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) is investing more than $3 million in Olds College of Agriculture and Technology to expand Smart Farm operations into Saskatchewan. The funding is part of PrairiesCan’s larger investment of $21 million to support 14 projects to build Alberta’s value-added agricultural sector and will help Olds College purchase new equipment to further research agriculture challenges impacting the Prairies.


Lethbridge College research chair receives grant close to $500,000

Chandra Singh, senior research chair in agricultural engineering and technology at the Advanced Postharvest Technology Centre (APHTC) became the RDAR-funded research chair, and received a grant of nearly $500,000, to continue his research and tenure at Lethbridge College through 2029.
