Harvest continues in Manitoba with early yield reports ranging from 90 to 120 bu/acre for fall rye, and 40 to 110 bu/acre for winter wheat in the central and eastern regions of the province. Alberta has released a new, updated Drought Response Plan that classifies drought stages by river basin to better reflect the conditions in each region of the province. Alberta originally released the 2024 Drought Response Plan in May, showing the entire province in the second-highest stage. Since then, some areas have seen significant rains, while others are still experiencing droughts and water shortages. With conditions varying, a more targeted approach is needed.

Micronutrients of concern in Western Canada include copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), boron (B), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe) and chlorine (Cl). Although they're required in very small amounts, they are still as essential as the macronutrients nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and sulfur (S). However, they can be notoriously hard to diagnose, and responses can be small and fleeting. For most micronutrients, using visual inspection alone is risky and inconclusive.
