Canadian grower groups are expressing their concern for the Grain Workers Union (GWU) Local 333 strike at the Port of Vancouver. With terminal elevators at this port receiving roughly 52 per cent of all grain produced in Canada last year, this work stoppage could have a major impact on grain farmers across the country.

Two Saskatchewan residents and two Nova Scotia residents were selected as 2025 Nuffield Canada Scholars. Each will receive a $20,000 scholarship to challenge themselves to complete a minimum of 10 weeks of travel study within 24 months to examine and research an agriculturally relevant issue of their choosing and complete a written report of their findings. This will be followed by a presentation to the Nuffield Board, with peers, sponsors and industry leaders in attendance.

Canola is a large user of P, but relatively little can be safely placed in the seedrow. Side-banding is an option, but 2021 market research by Stratus Ag Research found that 44 per cent of canola acres have P applied in the seedrow, compared to 31 per cent for side-banding and 13 per cent for mid-row banding. From 2020 through 2022, a research project investigated novel sources of P and how they impact stand establishment and yield.
