Over 40 of Canada's agriculture and agri-food industry groups sent a letter to the Senate to reject Bill C-282, an act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act (supply management). The letter expressed concern that Bill C-282 would threaten Canada’s trade-based economy in the context of the 2026 Review of the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).

Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) views the passage of the right-to-repair legislation, Bills C-244 and C-294, as a significant victory for farmers. Both bills amend the Copyright Act, allowing farmers access to diagnostic software needed to repair sophisticated machinery and facilitating the interoperability of parts and equipment.

Alberta has been rat-free for 70 years and the $110,000 funding to the Alberta Invasive Species Council through Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) will continue this proactive approach. The investment will fund billboards and outreach materials as well as application training workshops to support Albertans with reporting rats.

Set aside your beliefs about bees. While managed honey bees play an important role in producing honey and pollinating crops, wild or native bees are often better pollinators. They're a key part of integrated crop pollination that combines the integration of pesticide stewardship, horticultural practices and habitat enhancement with the integration of wild bees, managed honey bees and alternative managed bees.

A two-year research project was conducted at Carman and Portage la Prairie, Man. to determine if starter phosphorous (P) fertilization would improve early corn development and increase yields, whether side-banding P in the spring near the seed would outperform fall deep-banded P applications, and if the agronomic benefits of starter P fertilization would be greater in strip-tillage than conventional tillage due to slower diffusion and root uptake of P in the strip-tillage system.
