New funding for three 4-H Alberta programs will help bridge the gap between urban and rural kids and develop safety and mental health programming. Through Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), the governments of Canada and Alberta are investing more than $731,000 over five years into the Intro to 4-H program, the Agriculture Safety and Mental Health Workshop and the Senior Spring Symposium.

Researchers from the University of Adelaide in Australia investigated how to manufacture more efficient zinc-enriched fertilizers, using the Canadian Light Source (CLS) at the University of Saskatchewan (USask). They originally suspected the type of zinc compound would help predict a fertilizer’s solubility, but the CLS beamline showed them the pH drives the fertilizer zinc solubility and availability to the crops.

On November 15, 2024, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Prabowo Subianto, the president of Indonesia, welcomed the substantive conclusion of negotiations for a Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The objective of the agreement is to bring CEPA into force as soon as possible. The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) has supported Canada's efforts to reach this agreement and sees it as a good growth opportunity for agri-food exports given Indonesia's position in the market.

The race is on, ever since the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced in May 2023 that gene-edited seeds would be regulated the same as conventionally bred seed varieties, Canadian researchers are investigating how gene editing could be applied to Canadian crops. The first Canadian field trial was conducted in 2024.
