Mohawk

Mohawk College aviation centre opens at right time for industry

Canada’s aviation industry had a shortage of aircraft maintenance engineers (AME’s) before Covid-19, and will contend with a deeper skills shortage as the industry pulls out of the pandemic at a time when more AME’s have jumped on the Covid-hiatus to retire. For students considering a career in aircraft maintenance or aerospace manufacturing, the timing couldn’t be better.

“Good aviation jobs will be coming back. Many of the skilled technicians who held those jobs before the pandemic have or will be retiring from the industry,” says Kal Rebin, Vice-President of Maintenance and Engineering for Jazz Aviation, Canada’s largest regional airline. “It is an unprecedented opportunity for a new generation of well-trained AME graduates who will be needed to maintain safe and reliable aircraft in Canada and around the world.”
